Eliminate the Signs of Poor Sleep

Are you a desk dozer?

Can’t sleep? It’s written all over your face: People who appear tired are viewed as unattractive, unhealthy, and sad, finds a new Swedish study.

And it’s no surprise that signs of failing to get shuteye appear right around your lids. Counter the area’s two most common day-after effects with these tricks.

The dead giveaway: Puffy eyes
You’re not dreaming it: Losing sleep leaves your undereye skin as puffy as the pillow you should have been snoozing on for 8 hours last night. “The inflated look appears because the tear ducts are unable to drain fluid after a poor night’s sleep,” says Tony Nakhla, M.D., a California-based dermatologist. This leads to swelling. Next time, prop your head up on a second pillow before going to sleep—the extra elevation will prevent fluid from forming under your eyes, Dr. Nakhla suggests. If you’re still bogged down with puffiness the next morning, ice the area to minimize the swelling.

The dead giveaway: Dark circles
To cut down on these, look for products with natural lightening ingredients, like arbutin, bearberry root, vitamin C, and kojic acid, Dr. Nakhla says. For a quick fix with a matte finish, apply a thin layer of MenScience Eye Rescue Formula to the undereye area when you wake up. The formula is loaded with kojic acid and vitamin C to reduce the darkness and keep you looking perky enough for your morning conversations at the office water cooler.

Stop both signs from appearing in the first place by learning how to sleep better tonight.
